• San Diego is experiencing a prolonged heatwave, with an Extreme Heat Warning issued for coastal and valley areas from 10 a.m. Friday, October 2, to 8 p.m. Thursday, October
• Temperatures are forecasted to be 10°C to 25°C above average, with coastal areas reaching 29°C to 39°C (85°F to 102°F) and inland areas hitting 36°C to 41°C (96°F to 106°F). Mountains and deserts will also see elevated temperatures, ranging from 24°C to 38°C (76°F to 101°F). The heatwave is driven by high-pressure systems and Santa Ana winds, which are expected to peak over the weekend.

Impact & Risks

The extreme heat poses risks to vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues. Outdoor workers and pets are also at risk. The combination of high temperatures, low humidity (15-25%), and gusty Santa Ana winds increases the danger of wildfires. Prolonged exposure to these conditions can lead to heat-related illnesses, dehydration, and other health complications.
